In this episode, it was revealed who Batman was after the police convicted him of murder. All the supervillains that Bruce locked up ended up knowing this information as well, including bane

The moral of Barbara's nightmare was that her biggest fear wasn't dying on the job, but she was scared of something happening that would expose Bruce's secrets to his enemies and ruin her family. The sad part is, that ultimately DID happen for real in Return Of The Joker - not with Barbara dying, but what the Joker did to Tim caused Bruce's secrets to be exposed, the bat family to break up, Batgirl and Robin to hang up their capes thus losing their legacies for good, and Bruce to end up lonely and bitter , almost losing his legacy for good too until Terry McGinnis arrived many years after hanging up his cape for the last time

Anyone realise, at least on screen, Bane doesn't juice himself with venom? This is probably unlikely because he can't go 12-24 hours without it in the comics, but still.

Am I hearing things or did Bane say Mr. Wayne? Meaning he knows Batman’s identity?
Jonathan Campbell 2 months ago
This is a nightmare that Batgirl is having after she was exposed to Scarecrows' fear gas. In it, she dies, Gordon is horrified to learn that Batman got his own daughter killed, and launches a city-wide manhunt against Batman, during which he also learns that Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same, so Bane knows because by this point EVERYBODY knows.
Allyssa Hernandez 2 months ago
It wasn't his strength alone that allowed him to break the bat. It was his intelligence as well. He figured out his identity.

You can tell how this is a dream sequence based on how competent the GCPD is for once. If they were this on top of things they wouldn't need Batman in the first place.
Jonathan Campbell 2 months ago
GCPD is always 50% more competent when they are hunting Batman down, dream or no dream. See Mask of the Phantasm, or Batman Beyond where Barbara (in a bit of a homage to this episode actually) thinks Terry has killed someone.

He actually sounds smart here, as opposed to either a mindless brute or an overdramatic 007 villain.
Emmanuel Williams 2 months ago
Josh Gulisano Henry Silva will always be the voice of Bane.
Josh Gulisano 10 months ago
lolmechy I think Tom Hardy’s goofy droning is intentional, and only works in the context of The Dark Knight Rises. Thematically, the inspiration of false hope fits perfectly with that film’s Bane, as his voice suggests that everything will be alright when clearly it won’t. I think that is what makes that film’s Band unnerving. He promises security, but his presence is dreadful. However, this Bane is fantastic. I agree, I love how soft spoken he is, because that’s a subtle nod to his sophistication and intelligence that is so integral to his character in comics. It also serves as a fantastic mirror to Batman’s own reserved manner of speech.

Had this episode ended with Batman fucking killing Bane, and he and Gordon perhaps reconciling, and the episode had not been simply a dream, this would far and away be the best from the entire series. Still a fantastic episode, copout ending and all
Jake Rutigliano 1 year ago
Noah Thiel But then Barbara doesn't become Oracle and I think Batman should have killed Scarecrow by throwing him off the ledge. That could give the GCPD another reason to go after him. By the way, your story sounds like it could have made a good finale for the series in general.

Bane is my favorite Batman villain since most of Batman's villains are basically nutjobs with little or no martial arts-abilities (with the exception of Killer Croc). In the case of Bane, Batman finally has a real challenge. However, I hate how Bane has an obvious weakness. Batman could beat Bane by simply pulling the wire.
Championare 1141 1 month ago
I mean, you'd think that a guy as smart as Bane would figure out how to cover up his venom tubes. It's like he NEEDS a weakness.
Soldier 76! 2 months ago
Heh, a wire. *thinks about how many tubes Bane from the Arkham game series has*

Batman kills a lot of people in the comics, some in brutal ways.
DragonBat362 3 years ago
This is why I like Batman more than Superman. He's more inventive and creative in his fights. Stuff like filling his cape with rocks and hooking Bane to the Batsignal just show how much of a genus Bruce is. With Superman, it's just punch, punch, punch!
Vanguard 1 1 year ago
I appreciate your respect for Superman, but how is Batman retarded?
A S R 2 years ago
You sound like a guy who has never seen or read a single movie, cartoon or comic that has Superman in it. He barely ever throws a punches, mainly because he's always holding back his strength. Also, more creative and inventive? How come? Batman's essentially retarded compared to Superman.
The Cardus Guy 2 years ago
Well, Batman has lots of gadgets and devices to his disposal. Superman only counts on his strength and the powers he has can be lethal and deadly which is something that he usually avoids :P

I was hoping that the video would leave this in but, the whole episode is a dream. Barbara A.K.A. Batgirl was exposed to some of Scarecrow's fear gas and it made her dream her worst nightmare, in this case her death setting off a war between her father and Batman.
Rhen Vao 3 years ago
From what I've heard, Bane didn't appear that much in DCAU because the creators found him to be more of a gimmicky villain and would get redundant after a while.  I wish he did appear a bit more often though because he could have had some really interesting episode arcs, maybe one based off of Knightfall which could have made an awesome season finale.
Lobo's Top 5 1 year ago
He felt gimmicky because he basically just came out the same year Batman TAS was created.
King KOBS 1 year ago
Jorge Mendoza He is basically a contrast to Batman in the comics. In his debut storyline, he hatched a scheme to take out one of the top heroes in DC so it's understandable that it's been all downhill since. Once he succeeded in beating Batman, he's floated around for years without any real purpose because nobody has thought of a story they would like to tell with a Bane type of character.
Jorge Mendoza 2 years ago
Rhen Vao How is Bane gimmicky if I may ask?
Hyperion 2 years ago
+A S R What makes him popular is his drive, like Venom, Venom is basically a Spider-Man on steroids who has temper issues. What makes people like Venom is because he was a challenging foe for Spider-Man and never gave up(until he became a hero of his own and that quickly changed), Bane is very similar.
A S R 2 years ago
Thing is, Bane is nothing but an overhyped gary stu. He's a Killer Croc/Venom rip-off on steroids, and nothing else. Him becoming so popular was just sheer luck and thank God Batman media hasn't portrayed him well, he doesn't deserve it at all.

Spencer Malley yea except for the fact that he’s not just a muscle head, as proven when he broke the bat. That was a perfectly formulated plan to wear Batman out catching criminals all night from the breakout. Then taking him out when he’s tired back in the bat cave. Which no other criminals knew about 👌

RockLegend2 4 years ago
Because, at all costs, Gordon wanted Batman to pay for what he did. He would even go so far as to hire one of Batman's greatest enemies to get revenge. Gordon wasn't in the right mind, and, if these events had actually transpired, it would've cost him his life.
Law Dawg 4 years ago
+RockLegend2onGaia Still though, why would Gordon hire Bane?
RockLegend2 4 years ago
In the episode, Barbara was under the effects of Scarecrow's fear gas (might be spoilers, but it's been years since this episode came out), and hallucinated that she died without telling her father that she was Batgirl. She passed out after being gassed, and dreamed that she was thrown off of a very tall tower by Scarecrow. Before hitting the ground, her father's police car drove right under her, and she smashed into it, killing her instantly. Commissioner Gordon unmasked her and was horrified to find that Batgirl was his daughter. That lead up to Gordon sending his policemen and Bane after Batman. Gordon believed that Batman had killed Batgirl, and that's what Bane was talking about. Commissioner Gordon apparently told Bane that he thought Batman killed Barbara.
