After years of being an occasional veggie, I pretty much stopped expecting veggie burgers to taste like meat and just thought of them as their own thing but I recently got to try the Beyond Burger at Carl's Jr and, man, it was good! As everyone says, if I didn't know it was meatless, I don't think I would've guessed. It just tasted (mostly) like beef. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to sink any teeth into an Impossible Burger yet but I've heard good things and am definitely looking forward to it now that they're in tons of restaurants here. The veggie burger renaissance has arrived! On a side note: I love seeing how far Rhett and Link's palettes have come since moving to Cali. I remember when eating *anything* veggie was half joke and half chore for them (and they'd spend most of the episode complaining about it) but now here they are, eating meatless burgers and loving it. Of course, as Link pointed out, if they brought a beef patty into the proceedings the veggie love-fest might lose a little momentum but, still, it's fun to see the boys leveling up in their Californication. I blame Stevie. :) Or maybe they're just happy to not be eating llama testicles and whale sphincters.

My dad got this disease from a tick that makes him unable to eat red meat. He loved burgers and hot dogs and stuff until he ate it and he got sick. He eats the Impossible burgers because it’s his favorite thing and closest to real meat he can get. He also has a plug that he can just buy the packs from

To be a vegetarian is to reject meat so why crave the flavor?
Sarena A 8 hours ago
not everyone goes vegetarian because they don't like the taste of meat, those people probably make up the minority of vegetarians
Irma 7 days ago
Because animal cruelty has nothing to do with flavor. I eat vegetarian meals at least once a week but im not a vegetarian. I do it for the animals and the environment. Also more diversity in my diet.

The beyond burger tastes like cat food smells and the texture is like gritty mashed potatoes with a slight crunch on the outside. I hope the impossible burger is better.

In today's news, veggie burgers are getting incredibly close to tasting like meat. Meanwhile, all meat burgers continue to taste just like meat. If you're committed to being vegetarian, then why try so hard to taste like meat.embrace the veggie.
Sarena A 8 hours ago
Not a lot of people stop eating meat because they don't like the taste! I loved meat and burgers were my favourite food, but I became vegan because I learned about the living conditions of the animals, so it's nice when I can eat something that taste like meat but isn't meat
Irma 7 days ago
Because im not a commited vegetarian. I eat vegitarian once a week, fish twice a week and the rest of the week meat. It is better for the enviroment than living off of beef. Also my brother doesnt eat meat cause he thinks its unhealthy, my sister doesnt eat meat cause of animal cruelty and my mom doesnt eat meat cause the dislikes meat. So technically my mom would be the only one who would eat these burgers. You are thinking way too black and white. As a non vegetarian i think beet burgers are delicious aswell

I’ve tried both and the impossible burger is better. It actually tastes like meat. The first time I had it I thought the waitress made a mistake and brought me a real meat burger. Biscuits Cafe in the Northwest sells the impossible burger. Give a try, it’s delicious.

I'm kind of confused over the if you are vegetarian, why are you eating foods that are imitating foods that contain meat comments. Vegetarians do not like the taste of vegetables. In fact, no sane person does. Primarily, a vegetarian eats foods that do not contain meats is that they either are trying to save the environment (due to the emissions of methane which is a GHG of bovines), they are strongly against aninal cruelty or for health reasons. No once LOVES the taste of vegetables, they either have no choice or do it for ethical reasons. So therefore in my opinion they can eat those foods as much as they like.

i went to a resteraunt in downtown chicago and saw the impossible burger on the menu of a burger joint. i asked the employees what was in it, because there was no description on the board. they insisted i just try it and so i did. it tasted very off and eventually an employee came up and said it was vegan. no wonder lmao

Now if they can just get the price below ground beef prices. Which they really should able to do vegetables tend to be cheaper than meat per pound

Sadly the Impossible Burger is illegal in Europe due to the fact that Heme, which is a component that makes the burger bleed, is produced via genetically engineered yeast (iirc), and currently anything genetically modified is comprehensively banned by EU regulation. The Beyond Burger is here though! So I suppose that's second best 😅

Maybe someone will see this and can answer. Can you taste the beet juice in those Beyond burgers?? There's something up with my tongue that anything beety tastes like soil to me and I'm slightly scared.
vegancam 2 months ago
No but there is a slight bitterness I can't quite put my finger on, I noticed so much I was looking for a palette cleanser after I finished it. The Impossible Burger tastes sweeter and - all I can come up with is - fattier than the Beyond Burger. The Beyond Burger has that slight bitterness to it as I said plus just a slightly strange synthetic/artificial high note to it. Now I've only eaten Impossible Burgers in restaurants and Beyond Burgers at home so that might effect my experiences of each. My kitchen after cooking the Beyond Burgers had that weird artificial smell linger for quite some time. The Impossible Burger was scarily like meat. Neither are really my thing but they are fascinating experiments in making plant-based foods appeal to the mainstream.

I never expect them to taste like meat because they aren't, they're from a plant and not a living (well not anymore), bleeding animal so I just never really got why people compared them. But I do love burgers and it's great when you find ones (like these) that taste sssoooooo good 😋 nomnomnom all day guilt free (apart from all the unhealthiness 😂)

My boyfriend and I had the Impossible Burger at a restaurant in Memphis, TN, and i was convinced that the waiter had brought us the wrong food and that it was actually real meat. I have been vegan for about 15 years and have never had anything so good, especially in the way this restaurant made it! They used jellied onions, which sounds weird, but it was sooooo delicious!!
