Impossible Burger VS Beyond Burger ft. Vince Lia!

After doing the Beyond Burger taste test, a bunch of you had asked me about the Impossible burger so I decided while I was in LA to film a head to head burger taste test with Vince Lia to see which one we liked better! We ordered the Beyond Burger from Veggie Grill and the Impossible Burger from Fatburger (not typically made vegan there, we ordered it without cheese and mayo), and headed to a park to give them a try :) A huge thank you to Vince Lia for collabing with me on this video! Be sure to check out his channel and the Ice Cream Taste Test we did together! ❧ ICE CREAM TASTE TEST ❧ ❧ SUBSCRIBE TO VINCE LIA ❧ For those who may be wondering about the animal testing for the Impossible Burger, I may do a video about it in the future, but unfortunately it looks like nearly all foods have been tested on animals for the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) approval for the FDA. So anything you've eaten that's been around since after 1958 has been either had testing in vitro or in vivo, meaning tested on animals. Animal testing aside, the Impossible Burger makes a huge impact by changing people's minds about vegan food and saves animals. Every Impossible Burger eaten by an omnivore helps reduce the number of animals killed for a meat-based burger. ☙ SUBSCRIBE ❧ to The Viet Vegan for new videos every Wed and Sat! ♥ ♡ Thanks for watching! ♡ FTC: Some links are affiliate links, and I get a small commission if you make any purchases through them. The impossible burger is not vegan. The company itself says this. Please do some research on the difference between plant based and vegan.
Chadwick Thaler 11 months ago
Umm, yes it is vegan. You're DEAD WRONG.
The Viet Vegan 11 months ago
I think overall I would prefer if we didn't attack each other and simply state our arguments without being condescending (as OP was to me) or pointing fingers. I agree that people shouldn't have to like vegans to understand the fundamental ethics behind veganism, but like with any dogma, having people you empathize or relate to makes it easier to adopt. Veganism is often viewed as an impossible and too perfect of a lifestyle and my main goal is to show people that it isn't the case.
Katie Flennery 11 months ago
C'est LaVie Yeah, I think Lisa is great! While I agreed with the op about the impossible burger, I don't like the tone of her post. I just have one comment which is that if someone needs to like vegans to care about the suffering of animals they need to get their priorities straightened out. It's like not believing in God because you don't like some Christians or Jews or Muslims. The bottom line is that you either believe or you don't and it really does not matter if you don't care for religious people.
Katie Flennery 11 months ago
The Viet Vegan I wish they had tested it on themselves or their family rather than unwilling animals they then killed. I understand there are vegans who are good with the impossible burger, I'm just not one of them. Anyway, I love your videos and I find you very relatable & funny. 😄
C'est LaVie 11 months ago
Florence Escott And this is why people don’t like vegans. Lisa is doing an amazing job promoting a realistic, attainable vegan lifestyle without coming off as preachy and judgmental (you).

Impossible uses gmo soy n also lab created chemical for the blood taste. U sure u want impossible? Next impossible added flavourings (chemical derived) while beyond doesn't

I don't like the beyond burger at all. I love the impossible burger. Downside is, like yours, many places over cook them

Say no to GMO! The Impossible Burger is genetically modified to make you think it's meat! Research your food!

I cannot find the impossible or beyond burger where I live (somewhere in the Quebec province)! I do like the Fieldroast burger, real pricey though, at $11 for 4 patties.

Try the A&W beyond burger!! That one beats both the regular beyond burger and the impossible. They add their own special seasoning mix!

If you want a great veggie burger, try Field Roast's handformed veggie burger.

Team Impossible! lol. Beyond tastes like corned beef =p
Nicole 11 months ago
The Beyond is a lot better if you add seasoning at home. I am lazy, I add liquid smoke and I probably over cook it to get some char. I really don’t like it at all when it’s under cooked.

beyond burger cannot get past the cat food smell and funky after taste for me YUCK! impossible burger is GMO!
Kamau Walton 11 months ago
I just tried the beyond burger but I made it at home myself. The instructions say it’s supposed to be pink in the middle & to only cook it for 3 minutes a slide but I cooked it for more like 5-6 to get more color on it. The impossible burger just tasted overly salty & a bit rubber-ish to me. You should definitely try making the beyond burger at home, I think you’d like it so much more! :)
Shy_Koneko 11 months ago
I've had the Beyond Burger and I as well didn't enjoy the raw texture on the inside. Also it realllly does smell like cat food. But I like breaking it up and using is for things like tacos. I really would love to try the Impossible Burger, but unfortunately so far it's not available in my area.

I'm just super excited that a local (45minute drive) Kroger store actually now has Beyond Burger. I bought the only 2 packages available and I got them both. I'll be trying them tomorrow. Gonna fix them like a Big Mac. Great video guys!
Amanda 11 months ago
The key to beyond burger is to cut it in half and make two patties from one. The thin slices get super crispy and it's the best.
Karlee With a Chance of Mangoes 11 months ago
Before I knew the full details about the animal testing issue with the Impossible Burger, I tried two and both times, I personally thought the Beyond Burger (cooked at home) was way better. In addition to learning more about the Impossible Burger and the controversy that follows it, I choose not to eat it because I prefer the Beyond Burger more taste wise, it's not as accessible as the Beyond Burger in terms of restaurants and grocery stores, and the Impossible Burgers sold in restaurants tend to have some sort of non-vegan ingredients which is weird. I just have no reason to eat it tbh. With that said, even though I personally don't eat Impossible Burgers and find it sad that animal testing was utilized, I believe it's a stepping stone for non-vegans to start thinking that going plant based isn't eating salads or bland food all day every day. In my eyes, this product is being marketed to a much bigger population, the omnivores, and it's the food alternatives that will get them thinking about a more compassionate, vegan lifestyle.
Kelly Ann White 11 months ago
I had the Beyond Burger cooked at home and the Impossible Burger at a restaurant. I found the Impossible Burger more realistic texturally, but the taste of both was pretty similar. My fiance who is an omnivore thought the Beyond Burger was better/ more realistic though. My Impossible Burger was definitely less cooked than the ones you guys had and was super juicy (like dripping on the plate juicy), I even felt like it was maybe TOO undercooked (but I feel like in the US they cook burgers on the rare side in general). If you're feeling like going for a drive to try the Impossible Burger again, the one I had was at Colter Bay in Buffalo (just a few minutes over the border).

Just recently tried the Impossible Burger. It was *so* incredibly dry (& grey 🤢). It had every ounce of moisture cooked out of it. I prefer the Beyond Burger. I think a lot of it comes down to the cooking. I tried the Impossible Burger at a place that specializes in meat burgers. Whereas if I got it at a vegan restaurant, more used to this type of thing, I think they could make it better. That may be another point in Beyond Burger's favor - I can buy it at the store & make it how I want it. 🍔 🤤
TheLyricalHorror 11 months ago
I've tried both and I prefer the Beyond Burger (when cooked properly!). The Impossible Burger has a really unpleasant aftertaste to me, I honestly couldn't describe it? Sort of tasted like how mothballs smell tbh and it lingers. At least the weird cat food smell from the Beyond Burger doesn't impact the taste. The Beyond Burger is better in my opinion, it just needs to be cooked and seasoned properly like any other burger :) Plus their sausages are amazing!
Gabrielle Deva 11 months ago
i love both, but the impossible burger is better imo. also, when i had the impossible burger mine wasn’t dry at all, so i think they may have cooked your’s too long.

the impossible burger lightweight freaked me out because it tasted so much like meat :P i was like whaattt. am i eating. is this a joke. what a time to be alive as a vegan with access to these foods!
Aleyda Delgado 11 months ago
Last weekend I tried the impossible burger and I also freaked out because it tasted like meat so I had all my non vegan family members try a piece and they were kind of confused too, so I had to ask the waitress again because I really was freaking out lol 😂

lol! that's hilarious. can 100% relate. sooo good it's scary!

I’ve had the impossible burger several times and its never been dry and was honestly awesome if u miss the classic burger every now and the. I think y’all should do a taste test again with it properly cooked and seasoned! I think that would make a huge difference.

I have had both. The beyond is the most accessible. It does stay a pink color but grills up really nice. I season mine Goya adobo. I had the impossible burger at Wahlburgers and it was amazing. Very similar to a beef burger. Also it was much more charred and still the moistest plant based burger I’ve had.
Vince Lia 11 months ago
Beyond Meat has done a great job making their products accessible to people and adding some seasoning to the burger can really make a difference.
Plant Prowess 11 months ago
I had the same impression, the impossible burger is definitely a little closer to actual meat but I do wish I could just buy the impossible burger at the grocery store to cook at home. I'd love to be able to add my own seasonings

The difference between them is that the impossible burger uses soybeans to mock heme which is iron to give the taste of meat. I recommend watching some videos on here about it its really interesting.

TGI Friday’s does a great job of cooking the Beyond. They season it well & get a good char. Impossible is more like an animal burger, but I’ve yet to have it cooked well. Usually too thin, not seasoned, & no char. I can’t wait until I can purchase it in a grocery store & test it properly.
Vince Lia 11 months ago
To get it vegan at Umami burger, you used to have to order it in a lettuce wrap with no cheese. I heard they just came out with a vegan bun and vegan cheese to order a traditional vegan burger!
The Viet Vegan 11 months ago
I've heard it's good at Umami burger! But I've never had it nor do I know if its easy to get vegan (since so many places serve it with dairy or an eggwashed bun ^^;)
Katie Flennery 11 months ago
I'll stick with the beyond burger since they did animal testing to create the impossible burger.
Candi Glamm 11 months ago
Team Impossible burger! If you go to a place that cooks it right it wouldn’t be so dry
Vampireleniore 11 months ago
I think preparation plays a big hand in the Beyond Burger. I mentioned this last time you reviewed the Beyond Burger, but if you cook it on one side for 3 minutes, flip it, put vegan cheese on it, and slap a lid on the skillet for those last three minutes, the texture is a lot meatier and I like the flavor a lot more. My non-vegan, burger-loving boyfriend agrees with me. I do NOT like it pink in the middle.
Vampireleniore 11 months ago
Also, it's kind of nice that they don't season it because then you get 100% of the ability to season it as you wish to.
Emily Cruz 11 months ago
I did a double take and thought you were next to Steve-o 😂 impossible burger for me! I would never cook the beyond burger again. I had to move to get rid of the cat food smell 😆

I get that Steve-o comment a lot.lol. Yeah, the smell when cooking the beyond burger is pretty bad.

Vince Lia 11 months ago
I believe all Fat Burger locations are serving it. You can also find it at Umami Burger and The Counter.

Good think to point out for any Gfree vegans/vegs/omnis: The Beyond Burger is Gfree where as the Impossible is not. =/ I have had to beyond a couple of times and so far have preferred it cooked from frozen to get that outside crispy and inside still a little gooey. I have also defrosted and sliced one into two thinner patties for a mcdonalds style bigmac patty. Also good. I didn't really like it thawed then cooked. It (as does their chicken) smell like cat food at least before cooking (and the chicken has a lingering after taste of catfood. or taste the way cat food smells. and you have to cook it to death to work any of that out). None of this is a complaint. Throwing in my experienced my two cents in because I miss the shiny penny. <3
Vince Lia 11 months ago
The Beyond Burger is pretty thick, so I can see why cutting it in half would be a good option. Doing that may also make it easier to cook.
Krista Bowers 11 months ago
Meagan McConnell In addition gluten, the Impossible Burger also contains soy.
Amber Plebanek 11 months ago
I forgot to tell that I tried the Impossible Burger the other day and I really liked it. I also took a mixture of Best Foods/Hellman's Vegan Mayo and some Boar's Head Delicatessen mustard with me to put on the burger and that made it super amazing. And I had the Beyond Burger at a restaurant on my birthday in April, and then at Veggie Grill when we met up last month. They put some kind of vegan cheese on it and vegan mayo. And like you guys I prefer the Impossible Burger because the texture was spot on, in my opinion. my biggest thing was that I wished they had peppered the patty when they were cooking it (I am a simple girl when it comes to burgers. LOL) But I will definitely be getting the impossible burger again. But not for a while, because it's pretty pricey. Heart you guys.
Amber Plebanek 11 months ago
The Viet Vegan of course! I am super glad I got to meet up with you guys. 💜💜
The Viet Vegan 11 months ago
BYOM hahah XD Yeah they are quite pricey! I think I shall do another test if Impossible Burger ever becomes available to cook at home. Thanks again for meeting with us at Veggie Grill! It was so nice hanging and gabbing about food XD
Krista Bowers 11 months ago
As someone who can't have either gluten or soy (both found in the Imposible Burger), I have only tried the Beyond Burger. When cooked properly, it is super delicious, with a good texture (I also add steak seasoning to mine). If undercooked, it isn't so good, so perhaps had the restaurant cooked it a bit longer y'all would've liked it more.
The Viet Vegan 11 months ago
Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of gluten or soy, that's true. Thanks for bringing that up!

Vince, I feel like you and I are kinda alike. I also was diagnosed with uc but I have other problems also. I went so far as to have low dose chemo to help. I went vegan on April 15th for my health and have seen immediate results already. I might even try to be a YouTuber myself soon describing my health issues and results. But, still loving the new lifestyle. I tried the new beyond burger for Memorial Day and loved it! I haven’t seen the impossible burger here in Kansas. Also, like Vince, I went vegan for my health and am finding out now about the cruelty to animals even in makeup. What? So didn’t know about that. I now can hug my fur babies and say, I love you and and mean that I love all animals. With every choice I choose to love animals every day!

When they cook they seize up, due to the proteins denaturizing, like a beef burger. Ick? Enjoyed this taste test, especially Eddie's contribution, because I have no wish to eat freaky close analogues myself, but need to know what is good to serve picky omnis who visit and disdain my simpler, scratch-cooked vegan foods. TFP!

That sucks that the BB was undercooked. I get mine from Smitty's because Sysco carries it now (in Canada). Still have yet to check out the IB. My favorite mock burger was Gardeins Beefless Burger. Then they pulled it out of Canada, because of the merger :( Great video.love the thumbnail.

I don't have access to the Impossible Burger. I have had the Beyond Burger and I think it has a weird smell when it's cooking. The taste is good if you cook it long enough. The burger toppings are what make the burger tasty. My sister is not a vegan and she loves the Beyond Burger! Maybe one day I can try the Impossible burger.
Vince Lia 11 months ago
The beyond burger definitely has a strange smell when cooking it. I've cooked it on a outdoor grill, which does help a lot. I agree that the toppings can make or break a burger. That special sauce on the beyond burger really helps.lol.

We couldn't put our finger on it. Not quite smoky, almost musty. We tried it at a ball game so maybe it was a secret seasoning or something.

I'm trying to figure out why Veggies Grill doesn't do a better job cooking their burgers, it really doesn't make sense. There is a restaurant in San Diego called Plant Power Fast food and they have a burger called the Big Zac that looks amazing, but I'm trying to figure out if the hour and 44 min drive is worth it. Like you, I try not to eat those types of food too often, but it's fun once in a while!

i took my omni friend, a big meat eater, to get impossible burger, and he was just blown away. even went back for a second on his own. at the restaurants i've been, they will ask how well you like the meat cooked, and the seasonings great, but not vegan unfortunately.

That's awesome!! Yeah I think there's a rather steep learning curve for how people cook vegan meats, because since they're not raw people assume you can just eat it no matter how uncooked it is, but nobody wants to eat raw potato, why would I want to eat raw seitan =//
