Beyond Burger vs Impossible Burger (Fake) vs Real Burger - Which One Tastes Better?

I got my dad to help me taste test the Beyond Burger vs Impossible Burger vs Real Burger! The Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger are two of my favorite vegetarian plant based burgers and to me they both taste like a real beef burger. So I went to Burgerfi to Pick up a real burger and a Beyond Burger then headed to Toasted in Winter Park, Florida to pickup an Impossible Burger so we could do a side by side legit food review of these burgers! I hope you enjoy my Beyond Burger vs Impossible Burger vs Real Burger and say Hi to my dad in the comments! ------------------------------------------------------ (Affiliate link - I make money if you buy anything from here) Music by Joakim Karud ------------------------------------------------------ - to print recipes - Facebook me - Instagram anyone? - Lets tweet each other!! ------------------------------------------------------ We are SauceStache! Hey! You said you would get into how the impossible burger is flavored, and what heme is, later in the video, then you never mentioned it again! Soo, can you make a new video about heme?

The sad thing is that the beef is 1000 times healthier for you than the other two!! Pea protein adds little to no nutritional benefits, soy is even worse as it’s toxic to our systems once it’s made into TVP. A mid-rare ground beef has high absorption and is nutrient packed.

As a meat eater, tried the beyond burger yesterday (impossible burger still not available here). it's pretty good. I could. easily eat it as a substitute to normal beef patties - but I couldn't accept it as a complete replacement for beef patties. I wonder if the impossible burger is going to be at level for me - because it sounds like it is.
Alex Snow 4 days ago
This is an infuriating taste test. You have them loaded up with toppings. Plain bread and patties for a real comparison so you can grasp actual textures and flavors. How were they seasoned? Were they all treated the same?
Alex Snow 4 days ago
+Sauce Stache I mean, I get your approach. But I'm a person (and chef) who likes balance and believes in tasting the ingredients even though they're all together. I just don't think it's fair when the purpose is to tell the difference of the main ingredient in a dish. Bit of a purist I suppose, lol.
Sauce Stache 4 days ago
So I thought about that. I knew going into this that the beyond and original impossible burger, although close, when put side by side with a meat burger you would absolutely be able to tell the difference. What I wanted to test was if you could tell the difference when eaten like how most people would eat it, with toppings. Besides children I know very few adults that eat their burgers with plain bread and patties. I didn't think that would be a fair comparison. The whole point of these plant based burgers is to be able to substitute a real burger for people that either want to eat less meat or no meat at all. I think this test demonstrated that could be done for the average burger eater. And Yes I asked the restaurants to lightly season with only salt and pepper. Sorry for the long answer hahaha but I hope this helps with my thought process on why I tested it this way. Now if I was testing the impossible 2.0 against real meat I might consider testing just the patty alone against each other.

If your a non-meat eater and all about ending animal cruelty then why have something that looks and tastes like animal meat? You can never win an argument if your a vegan who loves the taste of that burger because is taste like real meat.

As it turns out, I got to try the Impossible burger today at Red Robin. It did seem more “burger-like” than the Beyond, mouth feel and taste was there, but it was over cooked and dry and overall not appealing. Red Robin loads it up with too much brioche, too much fixins’, and doesn’t let the patty shine through. I would like to try one at home where I can cook it to my own taste.

All the ingredients in this burger is man made Starches. Not real food over time it's just as bad eating meat! It isn't Alkaline nothing natural or nature product.
Sauce Stache 17 days ago
Thats not true at all actually. The key ingredient in the beyond burger is pea protein. Its a simple process actually. Take peas, blend them with water (the funny thing is the blend it with alkaline water) then they simply put the blended pea water mixture into a certerfuge to extract the pea protein. But you can kinda do a simple extract at home simply by blending the pea and letting everything settle. The heaviest part that settles first will be the fiber and pea starch then the part that sits on top will be the proteins. You then pass that through a very very fine scientific filter to have only the pea proteins. Its man mad but it is 100% from plants. The impossible burger is made using a similar process buy with a wheat protein. The impossible takes it a step further buy utilizing natural heme found in plants. The grow this heme independently using methods similar to a culture. The funny thing is the impossible burger contains no starch and the only starch in the beyond burger is potato starch.

I'm looking to try the Beyond Burger when it arrives in my neck of the woods. Especially if what you say is true and it doesn't taste like beef but tastes great anyway. I've eaten the Impossible Burger and as a vegan it's just too authentic for me (weird right? :) The restaurant I went to only served a double pattie burger and after years of not eating meat it was too beefy 4 me.

I did prefer impossible more than beyond. Unfortunately I do get an off taste with the beyond burger, every time 🤢. But ethically I won’t support impossible foods since I don’t believe in animal testing. The closest from I think to a cow burger was impossible (and no I don’t need my food to taste like animal flesh, but some people do). I think omnivores will be pleased if they wanted a break or even switch. But that being said I haven’t eaten animals in 23 years so 🤷🏻‍♀️. ✌🏼🌱
Yvette 1 month ago
Sauce Stache yes exactly! My sister loves impossible, she’s been veg for a long time too but prefers impossible because it’s so close to a hamburger (she use to love hamburgers). That after taste with beyond, good to know it’s not just me. My husband loves beyond too , I think more than impossible actually and he’s newly veg. He does remembers what red meat tastes like but still prefers beyond (but he says like you it’s does taste like a veggie burger). Our friend too likes it and eats it no problem and they don’t get that off taste. I wanted to love it but, plus they didn’t test on animals 🙁. I’m glad there are options for everyone and the veggie burger is getting better every time. 💚✌🏼
Sauce Stache 1 month ago
Yeah I think these burgers are specifically for people that just want to eat less meat or just people that do like the meat taste but don't want the animal harm. I personally like the beyond better.I know it does have an off taste and smell but I don't mind it haha

Beyond burger is easy to tell that it isn't real meat. It is just a more souped up Boca burger, slight taste of one and similar texture. I hate Boca burgers. The Impossible burger has very similar texture and taste to ground beef. Pretty good, I'd eat them again but a well made beef patty can't be beat.

I know the impossible burger isnt meant to be eaten on its own, but I know beyond sells regular beyond meat, so why not try real vs impossible vs beyond with just the meat and nothing else to help mask the flavours? plus, what was the quality of the real meat? although I still think it was a good comparison
X 2 months ago
+Sauce Stache ok cool, and that is a very good point about the eating a patty plain. indeed high quality beef, pretty fair comparison
Sauce Stache 2 months ago
So that is a good point, but I will say that knowing these burgers without the dressings you would easily be able to tell. I thought about it and I felt that I don't know too many people that eat a burger patty plain and I wanted to see if someone could tell the difference between a dressed burger. The beef was USDA Grade A grass fed beef. Very high quality
Jonathon Simon 2 months ago
A truer, more scientific test would be to taste only the patty, but I'm always seeing these fake burgers tested with bun, cheese, and other toppings. Of course that's going to help hide the taste of the meat.
Jay Rodz 1 month ago
The impossible burger is more like a real burger with nothing on it. Looks and feels like real meat. Im a meat eater and have tried both. The impossible in my opinion is better. To a person who hasn’t eaten meat for a while, i think the beyond burger would suit them better. But both are good. With the exception of the unbelievable burger having wheat in it.
Sauce Stache 2 months ago
I thought about that, but the point of the test was to determine if someone could tell the difference between the burgers, not the patties. I weighed the options of testing just the patty itself but it seemed like no matter how you tested the solo patty you would immediately be able to tell. Considering that most people eat a dressed burger I wanted to see if a normal burger eater would be able to tell the difference when it was dressed. It gives you a more complete picture.

+Sauce Stache Alright, thanks for clearing that up.
Sauce Stache 2 months ago
Marcus Thomas well I’m on your side. I might not be vegan but I promote the vegan/vegetation and plant based lifestyles. You might not like the phrase but the reality is that the beef burger is commonly referred to as the real burger. I’m sure you’ve heard people reference plant based meat as fake meat right? To win over more people you simply have to play the game and arguing semantics just turns people off of your cause.

I’ve had both and had supported both until I heard about Impossible Foods using animal testing then I went all in with Beyond Meat and couldn’t be happier. Impossible Burger is the most eerie experience I’ve had since kicking meat 20+ yrs ago — appearance, taste, smell — and along with my views on animal testing I don’t care for it at all. Beyond Meat for the win, I truly do feel this is best option and the most available on a global scale at that. bmeataware.blogspot.com

+Sauce Stache I personally know friends of mine who are vegans who take supplements as a must. And can you tell me where they can get vitamin B12 and other nutrients? I honestly don't have problem with people choosing to eat what they want, but I hate it when they try to shove it down my throat as a healthy diet. And don't forget that people like the one you replied to make it worse for them
Sauce Stache 3 months ago
I was vegan/veg for ten years without supplements. It’s honestly not needed.
serial killer psycopath 3 months ago
+Sauce Stache even though I totally agree with how you expressed it, but tbh we need meat, we don't get all our nutrients from plants. Of course you can take your supplements, but no for me it's unnatural.
Sauce Stache 3 months ago
I doubt that we will get to human meat. Let me just say this. Kindness, understanding, and conversation is a way better way to get people to see your point then extremism. At 1 point in your life, you made the decision to not eat meat and I can only assume it was your own choice based on beliefs and not because of an extremist telling you that you were eating corpses or talking about human meat. I made that decision years ago and have wayed back and forth on it. The only thing that ever made me rethink my perspective was extremists. To 95% of people in the world that burger is food. Its real food. Do they need to eat it, no. Will your name calling and extreme view change anyone's mind? No. it will simply be looked at as a meme of vegans, its mocked. You've heard the jokes. this type of comment is why.

Both are trash! Nothing replaces the REAL thing from nature! Vegans may feel better eating this chemical concoction because they think they are saving an animal not realizing they’re shortening their life. You may not be able to taste the difference but your body can.

Max that’s why it’s consumed “occasionally”. Still much healthier and nutrient dense than lab created mixture of inflammatory goop!

+Thomas Keets grass fed organic meat is not sustainable, and causes more greenhouse gas emissions than factory farmed meat. It might be healthier but the majority of the industrialised world eats grain fed beef, which promotes disease.

Max please get your facts straight! Redmeat does not promote inflammation nor does it promote oxidative stress nor is it inflammatory! Processed meats do but not grass fed organic meat. There is a significant distinction.

Nowadays I prefer the impossible burger. The first time I tried it I ALMOST puked, though. It’s been over 10 years since the last time I had a real beef patty, and the impossible burger was SO meaty, it really messed up with my head. In fact, I think it’s so meaty it starts to resemble something like elk or whatever - it’s a burger where everything that makes it taste like a burger is amplified. I guess as a rule of thumb, if you haven’t had meat in a while, you’ll prefer the Beyond burger. If you’re used to meat (or if you keep eating stuff from Impossible Foods), you’ll prefer the impossible burger.
Sauce Stache 3 months ago
I think you nailed it! I personally love the taste of the beyond. But I know plenty of meat eaters that love the impossible.

I've had the Impossible a lot. Love it when it's cooked properly (basically just not undercooked). Tried the Beyond Burger yesterday with low expectations and it tasted great. What you’re saying is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter what the beyond or impossible burgers taste like. The question is do they contain large amounts of essential fatty acids and cholesterol. If they don’t then these so called burgers cannot ever replace meat.

I guess the BB is arguably the healthier option. no gluten, pea protein and soy free. Impossible burger is like a high-tech meat simulation.

My man family used to eat only chicken and fish but now we are hooked to burgers with the Beyond Burger. We buy 4 at a time at Ralph’s. They sell out fast.

Its so good right??? I just had one yesterday! IT seems lately they've been able to keep them in stock a little better, but I know what you mean. Early on it would be weeks in between finding them

Wow, this video is amazing! I want to give up beef forever but the current veggie burgers don't taste that great.

I’ve just been introduced to the beyond burger. But the after taste and burps later on are not appetizing in my opinion. If anyone knows how to dial that down I’m totally down, since the initial bite and flavor is so good. 🤤

I've heard a lot of people talk about the after taste. I am one of the lucky ones that doesn't experience it

I'm the furthest thing from a vegetarian, but really enjoyable video that was well presented. Subbed.

Like I said, I’ve had the impossible burger and it’s pretty good. I think I’ve had the beyond burger, too. They’re both good. But even if you initially can’t tell the difference of the impossible burger upon first bite, I don’t think our brains will ever be fully tricked into thinking it’s real meat. Our brains are just too sophisticated for that.

It’s pretty cool that he couldn’t tell the difference. I’ve tried all of them. The impossible burger is really good.
