Jeremy Clarkson tries the meat-free "Impossible burger"

Can this burger save the world? Meat is one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gases. Hence Bill Gates and Google's latest big idea: a meat-free burger made in a laboratory from plants, but which bleeds and sizzles. Now it's coming to Britain. Watch Sunday Times Driving columnist Jeremy Clarkson take the Impossible burger challenge. Read the article in full at

I have a question. How do I know I'm eating the impossible whopper? What is the difference? I got sick even though I got it done in the microwave! Somebody please help!

Hey Lunar Moon. Why are you so certain that in 50 or 60 years plants will still exist, rather than BEEF? Our world is a world build in a symbiotic relationship. One goes. so goeth the other! Be careful what u wish for!

How many pills is that guy popping cause of all the meat and dairy he eats? It's obvious he eats a lot because he's fat. Granted, vegans can be fat too. But if that's how you want to live life, it's no ok with me, because you cost me money taking care of you. You are an unwarranted burden on society.

As someone experiencing their first real bad gout attack, plant-based cheeseburger substitutes may be my only choice going forwards. I neither want to ever experience the hell of gout again nor want to eat 'like a budgerigar'. So any efforts to find a happy middle ground are very welcome imo.

The best veggie burgers are Linda McCartney Mozarella Burgers. They contain cheese so you get the moisture, savouriness and grease of a burger. Though not vegan.

meat causes greenhouse gasses? it's almost like deforestation operations don't, and that more people going vegan/vegetarian don't increase pressure on that front hm.

Oh dear, how ignorant do you have to be to think the only thing a vegetarian can eat is seeds. He clearly has very limited experience of food in general.

Since the Impossible Burger is doped up so much with coconut oil and saturated fat, consumers could just as well go to whole foods and buy coconut oil and eat that.

I don't eat a vegetarian or vegan diet but frankly there is a lot to be said for eating a lot more veg and less meat - particularly red meat. Also, I don't get all these people who hate on vegetarians and vegans, and it's actually a minority of vegans who preach veganism - they are simply the only ones who are so vocal about it and so you don't hear from all the others who mind their own business. Also, to be honest, there are at least as many if not way more people who never shut the hell up about either hating vegans or never shut up about bacon etc. You're all just as annoying as preachy vegans. Why don't people just enjoy their own ways of living and mind their own f***ing business?

This is not a safe burger and is not fully tested for consumption in humans. Scientist from Monsanto and the Gates foundation tested this burger stating it is safe to eat. This is basically a GMO created product made of heme thats creates new type of protein that has never been in our the food chain before. I will not ever eat one and i hope that restaurants do not start implementing Impossible Burger all over the world.

As a vegetarian I don't even like the taste of meat. Why would I want my food to taste of meat? Love Clarksons reaction though, and his statement at the end I completely agree with.
PunkZombie1300 3 months ago
Some people need to stop eating meat for health reasons, like my mum has an allergy to meat (seafood is okay), and my dad can't eat red meat too often per his doc. So these products are still good for people who enjoy a burger but can't eat real meat for the sake of their health.

Do vegans really not know that animals get killed with ALL farming, especially when harvesting for tofu? I really think they don't know
Sadie Blue 3 months ago
@Elision Alot of people that don't know farming and how it works, thinks being vegan is taking no part in killing animals but I grew up on a farm and hate to break it to them but tons of animals have to be killed to keep all the veggies and fruits protected. What animals do survive just end up getting poisoned. There is a reason why vultures follow combines during harvest. Lots of rabbits, mice, birds, and everything in between get killed or dismembered. If someone wants to be vegan that's fine, just don't act all righteous and pretend your way is superior. I can't stand when vegans act that way.
CrazyInWeston 3 months ago
Whats pathetic about vegans is that they wont eat anything that the animals can make *while they are alive* for example eggs, milk, cheese, yogurts. These animals arent harmed/killed in the retrieving of such foodstuffs! Granted there are some places with poor animal welfare but most places try to give animals a good life for the harvesting of milk/eggs whatnot. Pathetic! And to be honest, for every vegan not eating so doesnt change one bit at all. That egg that vegan wont eat will just be eaten by the next person. Makes no difference at all. Same goes to Vegetarians.
Elision 3 months ago
Yes, we know. And we also know that the majority of soy harvested goes to feeding animals, who are then also killed. It's just about reduction of harm.

@Bex Guess Italy, i've been to the usual fast food joints mcdonalds, burger king, etc, and then to the specific U.S. style restaurants , it feels like it's just cooked grounded beef. I've even tried buying premade burgers and grilling them. I think burgers are just not for me, idd rather have a steak with some salt and pepper, or some ribs

Yellow Fin Aquariums this was designed as a meat replacement for meat eaters looking to eat more veggies. Vegetarians really don’t care about burgers. They don’t choose veggies out of spite, they choose them out of preference or to be healthier. Morons (in both camps) always want to make it political.
Jim Trainor 3 months ago
Here's the contradiction about these fake burgers: they are made from plant protein isolate (e.g. pea and/or soy) and some sort of seed oil (e.g. canola, soy) that are the products of unsustainable mass mono-crop agricultural practices that require endless fossil fuel derived fertilizer, endless irrigation, and that slowly but surely destroy the top soil. Factory farming of grain fed beef is no better, makes a less healthy product (meat that is stripped of omega-3), and makes the animals sick to boot. BUT: pasture raised, grass fed beef, raised as natural ruminants, are the exact opposite. They are part of the virtuous sustainable cycle that we call life , as old as evolution itself, that builds top soil, feeds the very perennial grasses that the animals consume, and creates healthy animal food products. The fake meat products are a regression, the real Beyond Meat or Impossible burger product that we should all be striving for is one that simply returns beef to its natural ruminant state.

If we eat more cows we are saving the planet from cow farts
CrazyInWeston 3 months ago
I like your thinking (because cow farts - well it isnt really, its actually cow burps - are methane gas which is 84 times worse than CO2 gas.) trouble is, eating more cows = raising more cows to meet demand = more cow farts/burps = even more worse for the planet.

I’m not a vegetarian but I am a chef, and the most important point of the meat free burger isn’t to satisfy vegetarians but to to give meat eaters other options, so the could feasibly eat less, red meat, become healthier and then we wouldn’t need so many cows than are contributing to global warning, and help in animal welfare I.e less cattle “hopefully “ better animal conditions. Clarkson wouldn’t understand this because he’s a cunt

I'm definitely not a vegetarian. I've been enjoying cookouts (grilling) my entire life and have some sort of meat with most meals. I have also had impossible burgers more than once. Why? Because they ARE pretty damn good - just not the same as a beef hamburger. That said - I agree with one thing that was said by Clarkson. WHY do vegetarians make such a big deal out of mimicking meat if they're against meat? It's like people righteously substituting fudge for fuck. We know your sentiment. We know you're cursing. You're just doing it less well than you could with the real thing. If you're against meat, just don't eat fucking meat.

Douglas Williams. my vegetarian girlfriend does not like her food looking or tasting like meat because she doesn’t like the look or taste of meat. i, a meat eater, like the taste of meat, so i often go for vegetarian substitutes that taste like meat. the goal of foods like this is to transition meat eaters to a more sustainable and friendly diet. it’s really not that hard to understand. plus, there’s also a market for people who used to eat meat but stopped for ethical or environmental reasons, and would like to go back to experiencing that taste again, which is fine. it’s a flavor and i think you’re being a bit dramatic here. the one thing that matters across all vegetarians is that it’s not meat. beyond that, people decide what taste and flavors they like for themselves. we do that shit all the time anyway, like making ice cream that doesn’t have dairy. it’s really not a big deal
Geniustrapper69 3 months ago
