Impossible Burger vs Beyond Burger: Which one is better?

It was a good ol' fashion veggie burger showdown! We compared the two most realistic veggie burgers in the world against each other. Umami Burger's Impossible Burger against Veggie Grill's Beyond Burger. We decided what tastes better and what tasted most realistic. We shot this video in Santa Monica. Since we are both vegetarians we grabbed some random dude off the street to get a meat eater's point of view

Comments to the video: Impossible Burger vs Beyond Burger: Which one is better?

That's all well and good but I'd like to know what the ingredients are. Just coz something tastes great doesn't make it healthy. I've tried Beyond Burger and like it a lot and the ingredients are all non GMO and is gluten free. I don't know about Impossible Burger. Can you get it outside the States?

Why is it so important for you guys that cutlet should look and taste like real beef if you are vegans? In my opinion the main thing is taste, cause cutlets can taste great and don't be similiar to meat.

I've tried both several times and still like the beyond burger better. But maybe it's because I make it myself.

Donny Darko likes the beyond burger. The average person in rural or middle America can find the beyond burger at the local health food store or supermarket. The Impossible burger is still not accessible for most areas.

I have heard from a few of my friends that the Impossible Burger tastes so much like a real burger.because they can only be bought in a restaurant. Now that alone makes no difference, but when you cook that burger on a flat top right next to real burgers, it will be soaking up and being cooked in the fats of the real meat.soo just be cautious if you are super hard on keeping everything separate! Great video!

BB hands down no contest!! And I withdrew my support of Impossible Burger due to the fact animal testing was used to develop it.

I am vegetarian for 30 years.haven't eaten beef, chicken or fish or any broths since 1988.I can't think of eating the impossible burger. I never liked the taste of meat, I was always grossed out that it was flesh from a living thing. I really enjoy the Beyond Meat burger. I have had it at Bareburger and I purchased it at Whole Foods to make at home. Thanks for the video guys!

Cooking technique makes a big difference. I've tried the Beyond at two different restaurants. One cooked it well (until it was grey throughout). The other cooked it rare (pink throughout). The rare version was certainly better (from Nancy's Burgers in Oregon). Also, if a company cooks the patty in more oil, that will certainly make it taste better as fat=flavor. Lesson learned? Both are great. Technique makes ALL of the difference.

Guys the Impossible Burger is far superior to the Beyond Burger. The Beyond burger tasted bad too me. Ive had boca burgers that tasted better than this. The impossible burger is excellent, more realistic, more reminiscent of a hamburger and you can even taste the coconut oil in it. I got it at Mark Wahlbergs restaurant Wahlburger.

The impossible burger is incredible. They do an imitation big Mac at the local vegan restaurant and it's amazing. I'm addicted.

TL;DR -- This is a generalized question, and I am hoping to find some real feedback. In many of the reviews I have seen for products like this, it is rarely conducted in a way that seems genuine, and has people who enjoy meat as the sole ones giving their feedback. This seems like a missed opportunity. Also -- please none of the shaming, hate-filled Vegan responses solely because I am not Vegan, please. I am honestly inquiring, and should be seen as an ally of sorts to this cause, rather than some mortal enemy on a battlefield of hateful speech. I wonder why it is that rather often, Vegans/Vegetarians are always the ones reviewing/weighing in on these products; most especially the Impossible Burger. After all, they are already willing to chow down on less than convincing foods, and even some foods that are unpleasant (looking at you, Tofurky), all in the name of their lifestyle. Beyond that, they are sometimes rather turned off by something that is too close to meat. And honestly, their opinion is not what will get people following a different lifestyle to try meat replacements. Instead, why do they not focus on blind taste-tests of their actual meat-eating counterparts -- the people whose opinions will actually determine whether it is a viable substitute? I have had both the Beyond Burger and the Impossible Burger, and the Beyond Burger is far from being what the Impossible Burger is. Since having it, I have wanted to have another Impossible Burger multiple times, just to convince myself (an omnivore) that I really experienced it. Meanwhile, the Beyond Burger was unpleasant in a way that I cannot directly pinpoint; that said, it is a no-go for me, and I would not choose to spend money to eat it again. Thanks :)

*The whole point of these kinds of burgers is to get meat eaters to eat them. Well, coming from someone who has eaten meat all their life for every meal, I've tried both and neither one taste anything like a beef patty.  All these videos I've seen is making me wonder if these people are promoting them or something because I'm befuddled!*

I tried the beyond burger a couple days ago. Didn’t care for the taste, but the smell was like the smell of hotdogs just more potent. It took forever to get rid of the smell after cooking it. I could definitely tell it was trying to capture the taste of a beef burger, but I think it missed the mark to much. I wouldn’t buy it again. I really want to try the impossible burger since it looks like a beef burger and generally gets higher rankings.

I used a homemade sauce and so many toppings so I didn't mind.🤣🙈 But it wasn't something I'd buy on a regular. It was just a good alternative during my 2nd month of going vegan.

Interesting, these ladies felt the opposite: . I don't think the smoky, woody charred flavour has to do with the burger patty itself but more with the cooking preparation method. With that said, since I live in Europe I unfortunately haven't been able to taste either yet.

Dude your boyfriend is a fag. well, I mean the douche type fag. not the fag fag. We obviously know he's gay cause you're together. I'm not homophobic or anything. I just like the word fag, you know? Anyways, besides you guys being fags(mostly your bf) I thought the video was very informative. I did not know either of these burgers are sold in any chains or restaurants. I have an umami burger down the street. I'll probably call ahead though to make sure they have it and it is made with vegan products. I used to eat umami burger all the time so it would be great to go back again. That reminds me of a time during new years when I kissed three dudes. I had never kissed a guy and I was a little worried cause it grossed me out initially but now I don't give a shit. I'm not like you fags and get off on it. Thanks for the video. Please don't read my comment while your bouncing on your boys dick.

I just tried today the beyond burger and it was honestly the best patty Ive ever had in my entire existance! Ive been vegan for 2 years now was vegetarian for 5 years before that and ate meat for the remainder of my life before that. I had my fair share of all varietys of pattys, vegan, vegetarian and meat based. Id have to say the beyond burger is the best ive ever tried. One thing is I have not tried the impossible burger. If it is as good as you say it is, better then the beyond, well then I believe it could be the best tasting patty. Not only the best tasting but the best for the fact that it doesnt involve animal cruelty. Im so looking forward to trying it out, thank you guys for the review

because it tastes good. a lot of vegetarians/vegans don't give up animal products because they stop liking the taste, its because they want to stop contributing to animal agriculture, give it up for they're health, want to reduce their carbon footprint. a lot of different reasons. its awesome that we can still have the taste of animal products, without hurting the animals.

Impossible burger is genetically engineered burger! The beyond burger says right on the package and website, NON-GMO!
4EvaRockNRoll 10 months ago
Impossible Burger used animal testing to develop the burger — if Beyond Meat can do it without then they should have done the same.
Adrian May 1 year ago
Johnny Diner The beyond burger is GMO. That's why they're not non-gmo verified. It contains yeast extract, which is a cover up name for MSG. There's also a bunch of other shit in it that's not good for you. It's literally full of toxins.
Gabriel De Santis 1 year ago
Dude, you need to learn the difference between genetically selected or hybrids and genetically modified. GMO is a totally different process, one that can actually cross not only between breeds, but species and is done by mix and matching the DNA directly, while the hybrids are just a forced and induced breeding process to better suit the needs of our species, is like crossing a white dog with a black dog to create a black and white dog compared to genetically manipulating it's DNA to insert a lobster tail to a dog so it can swimn. Get your facts together between saying stupid stuff.
Wirbelfeld 1 year ago
Johnny Diner people have been genetically modifying plants and animals for hundreds of years. Every food you eat is a gmo

My question is, who are these two companies trying to market to? Are they marketing to meat eaters who occasionally want to get a veggie burger? Or are they trying to market to vegetarian/vegans?
Justin deHart 1 year ago
They're marketing more toward the meat eaters of the world with the goal of reducing beef consumption. I've heard that some long-time vegans and vegetarians find this too close to real meat for their taste.

To get the beyond burger you need to see if your city has a Wahlbergers restaurant, its the Mark Wahlbergs family business that they did that reality show about/ THey sell the impossible burger there and it is excellent girlfriend, they top it with smoked cheddar and carmelized onions, I was thoroughly impressed. The Impossible burger from umami isn't fully vegan it still has real cheese and the bun itself has dairy in it that's why I heard so it's kind of an unfair to compare a vegan burger from Veggie Grill and a vegetarian one from umami.

Okay after seeing this I had to try The Impossible Burger. A. The Buns at Umami Burger are not vegan, had to get it on lettuce leaves. (NOT my thing at all!) B. The sauces that come on the Impossible are also not vegan and the waitress suggested their Diablo sauce that was nice and spicy. (I was glad for a knowledgeable server!) C. Umami Burger does NOT offer any vegan cheese options! So while the ImpossibleBurger is supposed to have cheese slices Vegans either need to bring their own or take this thing home to doctor up. OH but you CAN'T order it to go!!! They have a policy about NO IMPOSSIBLE BURGERS TO GO! It's even on their website! WTF? So I asked what if I sit down order it take one bite and ask for a to go box? The waitress was cool and took care of me. I was NOT impressed with my first in restaurant bite! (Kind of funky) After that I took it home to doctor it up! While it was MUCH BETTER than The Beyond Burger it still had some funky flavor that on it's own with no help from a bun, cheese or sauces was too weird for me. After I got it home on a bun with my condiments and vegan cheese I was actually able to eat about 2/3 of the burger. But again that weird funky flavor couldn't be avoided and I don't think I'll be ordering this again. I just don't miss burgers enough.
