A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke Lyrics: I was born by the river in a little tent Oh, and just like the river I’ve been a-runnin’ ever since. It’s been a long, a long time comin’, but I know, oh-oo-oh, a change gon’ come, oh yes, it will. It’s been too hard living but I’m afraid to die ‘Cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky It’s been a long, a long time comin’, But I know, oh-oo-oh, A change gonna come, oh yes, it will. I go to the movie and I go downtown Somebody keep tellin’ me don’t hang around. It’s been a long, a long time coming, but I know, oh-oo-oh, A change gon’ come, oh yes, it will. Then I go, oh-oo-oh, to my brother and I say, brother, help me please. But he winds up knocking me back down on my knees, oh. There’ve been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long But now I think I’m able to carry on It’s been a long, a long time comin’, But I know, oh-oo-oh, a change gonna come, oh yes, it will. One of the most famous songs of Sam Cooke, the father of soul. Cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Now I don't mean to bother you But I'm in distress There's danger of me losing all of my happiness For I love a girl who doesn't know I exist And this you can fix So. Cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Cupid with your arrow make her love strong for me I promise I wll love her until eternity I know between the two of us her heart we can steal help me if you will So. Cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Cupid don't you hear me calling you I need you Cupid help me

Follow the past 50 years of Rock n' Roll as if it is happening today at Record Review of Sam Cooke's 1957 self titled debut LP from Pig City Records If you had your hands on the wheel you'd realise the road is wrapping around the edges in front of us, but you like the way the wheel is turning itself. We've both agreed that 'gay paris' is sometimes relevant but that neither of us would ever say it. White leather interiors and aqua exteriors up on the cliffs above the ocean, it's a convertible and that's even okay, 'Danny Boy' is playing now and that's even okay cause Sam Cooke is singing it. You could even throw your hands up or let some kind of long scarf out into the breeze and I wouldn't hate you for it. My shirt's open to the world and I don't hate myself for it. 'Ol' Man River' sees the broken lines pass us by in perfect time. We should drive to Vermont and never go to sleep. It's okay to not have the right friends. I know I don't yet understand, but Sam Cooke's making me feel like I do. I know that we never understood those eggnog parties with the red sweaters and the Italian knit, shoestring, handmade crocodile leather, chino teeth, double stitched, freshly cut, short back and slow and steady. We were laughing cause we had to. I was sitting on part of the three piece sectional by the fire, and you were standing on the green lyno with the ladies talking spritzers' and love cause we had to. Bobby Vee was drawling through the dream time stereo and bouncing off the brain and out into the big black dull. The bodies were moving considerately. No one could come to an agreement as to why Bill had never married. Lorraine had locked the ill-disciplined dog in the kennel, couldn't have it crapping on the shampooed carpet and ruining Christmas. It was a night they'd all talk about for years. The kids were all chocolate faces and fire crackers. The stereo was melting. We had to leave before the walls melted, and we listen to 'You Send Me' and 'Tammy' on the way across the country. Sometimes worry free records are nice. Sometimes they even become something unintentionally profound in a way, and that is the case with this Sam Cooke album -- a record angled at the easy listener, if not by the artist then definitely by the record label, that instead has retained the power to take someone 50 years later into some kind of strangely self-reflective daydream. BOBBY WOMACK MARRIES SAM COOKE'S WIDOW; GETS PISTOL WHIPPED Singer Bobby Womack married Sam Cooke's widow today (February 24, 1965). The marriage was scandalous from the start and since Bobby Womack wasn't even 21 years old yet, he had to receive his parents' permission. But the main issue was the fact that Sam Cooke's family was still grieving over his death, which had occurred just three months earlier. Within months of Sam Cooke's death, Barbara Cook was flashing a new engagement ring that was a gift from Sam's friend Bobby Womack, who had just proposed to her. Charles arrived with his brothers David and L.C., he pistol whipped Bobby and beat him to the point that his teeth went through his lips, rendering him unconscious. Read more:
Artist: The Singing Cookes Title: Mail Order From Heaven Year: 1983 Source: Record I've always said this is the Singing Cookes best album! I guess that's why I have it. Has 3 of their biggest hits on first side all in a row as well as a solid cover of the Stanley Brothers song Mothers at rest. The Cookes should re-issue this album on cd because it would be a great seller on the product table. This record of mine has endured, as their song says. many hills & many valleys but still sounds great! Had a minor skip on Victory Is Sweet and I cleaned and cleaned until it smoothed out. Sometimes we think a record has a scratch that causes a skip when in fact it is just some dirt or material clinging to the groove of the vinyl. Hope you enjoy this album! Songs: 1: Mail Order From Heaven 2: Victory Is Sweet 3: Way Below The Bottom 4: When I Crossed That River 5: Jesus 6: Heading For Canaan 7: Baptism of Jesus 8: Going To A Beautiful City 9: Mother's At Rest 10: I've Got To Make It Somehow
Dr. Cooke was born on February 14, 1923 in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Thurston and Effie Cage Lee. A. Cookes Pie and Mash is our second documentary 9 episode. This film tells the story of A.Cookes Pie and Mash established in 1899 and sadly closing it's doors for the last time on 25th July 2015. It was issued a compulsory purchase order so after 116 years of trading it is soon to be no more. We captured what this means to it's own Mike Broughton and also the customers. One man has been going there for 80 years. It's a family venue, it's heritage, it's history and its disappearing in a London which is fast changing due to re-generation. Hosted by Callum Barwick this is Doc 9. firstname.lastname@example.org instagram/mellow9productions twitter@mellow9 facebook/mellow9productions

This is The Singing Cookes at the top of their game. From their 1978 album My God Knows What I Need (SC-15). This video is part of series I'm doing on the soundtrack of my youth. Most of these songs are southern gospel in nature but I may post other types of music eventually. If I had known as a young child that these albums would one day be rare and I'd want to record them into something called a computer and convert them into something called a MP3 file so that I could burn them to something called a CD or listen to them on something called an iPod, I would have taken better care of them. But all I knew at the time is that I loved them and I played them over and over again. So sorry for any snap, crackle and pop.
Dedicated to my Daddy. Died September 22, 2006. Dedicated to you all my friends on youtube also. God bless you all. Hope you enjoy the song. The Singing Cookes. When I Cross That River. From Wayne.
